NAN Newark Tech World is the brainchild of the Rev Dr. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network. NAN Newark Tech World is 1 of 6 21st Century Learning Centers established in (New York, Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Compton California) via the leadership of the National Action Network and the Rev Steffie Bartley, NAN New Jersey Chapters Coordinator and Director. NAN Newark Tech World focuses on basic literacy, intermediate and advanced computer skills, coding, routing, switching, and networking IT skills. NAN Newark Tech World community members will learn about ways that technology can be helpful in their lives.

Who are We?
NAN Newark Tech World was established in April 2016:
NAN Newark Tech World is a collaboration of various local stakeholders responding to the White House’s bold multi-sector initiative and call to action to up-skill Americans to obtain a well-paying tech job, in just a few months. This extends the current efforts of Mayor Baraka’s Office to empower Newark residents and meet the talent needs of local businesses. Employers across the United States are in critical need of talent with these skills.
Located at 400 Hawthorne Ave in Newark, NAN Newark Tech World is a transformational institution for the area. Free for students, NAN Newark Tech World offer courses in web design, graphic design, digital literacy, networking, and more. In conjunction with local universities and nonprofits, the Tech Academy serves as a high-tech locus for the city.

Founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton, NAN works within the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, decency and equal opportunities for all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, criminal record, economic status, gender, gender expression, or sexuality.
