Newark, NJ (August, 2024)  – Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), announced a collaboration with AT&T aimed at empowering 10,000 children and adults in underserved communities as part of AT&T’s Connected Learning initiative. AT&T is contributing $500K to NAN Tech World to support ongoing efforts to promote broadband adoption and enhance technology skills through in-person instruction in Newark and other urban communities.

“In a global economy driven by computers and the internet, the need for closing the equity gaps extends well into the digital realm,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. “AT&T understands that investing in digital equity and literacy for low-income individuals in diverse urban communities yields both moral and economic dividends. This commitment will greatly enhance the fantastic work already underway at NAN Tech World.”

“Digital literacy skills are a vital component for opening doors to opportunity,” said Mylayna Albright, AVP, Corporate Social Responsibility, AT&T. “We’re thrilled bring high-quality resources to residents of Newark, and we look forward to seeing how these resources will help to bridge the digital divide in their community.”

Since 2016, NAN Newark Tech World has provided high-quality digital learning resources and educational tools to train Newark residents of all ages for high-paying jobs in the information technology industry.

This collaboration with AT&T will support the implementation of multiple initiatives aimed at advancing broadband adoption using AT&T Connected Learning tools and resources, engaging 10,000 children and adults across Newark. The collaboration will also fund new technology equipment to integrate The Achievery℠, AT&T’s free digital education platform into K-12 student programming and provide digital literacy courses, on topics ranging from technology fundamentals to fraud prevention. These programs will lay the foundation for students and families to learn critical skills to access timely information, essential services, and opportunities for economic growth.

AT&T’s generous commitment will significantly enhance NAN Tech World’s efforts to ensure every community member has the opportunity to not only participate in but succeed in today’s digital world.
